Art exhibition – TWILIGHT

October 27, 2022

SC Galerija Centrs the 3rd floor 28/10/2022 – 4/02/2023

The choice of monochrome colour scheme in artworks achieves diverse and sometimes complex solutions to themes. When it comes to understanding the symbolic meaning of ‘black and white art’, it’s all about the story that the artwork tells each individual personally. There are no right answers, only infinite understanding that speaks to us all in different ways!

Black and white are not really colours at all, but light and dark, their contrast, play a big role in art and design. The black and white composition tells its story in different ways, not only through the eyes of the artist, but also through the eyes of the viewer. Colours are the wavelengths that objects reflect to the human eye. White is pure light and black is the absolute absence of light. In short, white is the total antithesis of black, as black and white naturally appear as opposites to our eyes.

Both the complexity of the human mind and its relationship with existence itself, as well as the inherent and instinctive human fear of the dark and what lurks in the shadows, are depicted through the expressions of black and white art. The exhibited paintings are complemented by the costume collections of Alisa Shutova, Baiba Tamane and Loreta Asermane. We invite you to immerse yourself in the enchanted world of multi-layered works of art.
